Vendor Spotlight: TagBags

19 Nov

TagBags are handbags made from recycled South African license plates and inner tubes. There are seven different designs, all named for a woman in the township of Kayamandi South Africa who is making a difference in her community of 25,000 people living together in a one square mile area.

The idea behind TagBags is simple – the more bags that are sold, the more jobs that are created. The more jobs that are created, the more lives that are changed. The owners of TagsBags are often asked why they don’t have the bags manufactured in China or Mexico, where it could be done less expensively. But to that they say, “The point is that we actually WANT them to be made in South Africa because we WANT to create jobs.” TagBag is just as much about MAKING the purses as it is about SELLING them. The dream is to have TagBag Purse Plants all over the world, creating jobs in impoverished areas as they manufacture amazing purses made from recycled materials.

Vendor Spotlight: 118 Degrees & Avanti Cafe

19 Nov

Not only will the owners of both 118 Degrees and Avanti Cafe be leading cooking demos during The Inspired Buyer (check the Activities page for their schedule), but each restaurant will also be selling their delectable goodies during the event. Yum!

While both restaurants, focus on healthy, vegetarian dishes, 118 Degrees’ specialty is raw cuisine, a.k.a living food that has not been cooked above 118 Degrees. Maintaining the foods essential nutrients and enzymes, you have to taste owner, Jenny Rosses delicious recipes to truly understand how great raw food can be. At The Inspired Buyer she’ll be selling an assortment of her pre-made goodies, including Chipotle Ranch Wraps, Kale Salads, Tames, Tacos, Macadamia Macaroons, and more.

With the Seabirds gourmet food truck also parked at the event throughout the day, I think we got your hungry belly covered!

Vendor Spotlight: Mariposa Designs

18 Nov

Throughout history, and across cultures, jewelry has been an integral part of the human experience. We’ve been adorning our bodies with raw materials . Such as grass woven necklaces with shells.  Jewelry is more than an accessory; it’s a religious token, a treasured family heirloom passed down from mother to daughter, a glittering status symbol, a currency, a memento, a talisman, an expression of love. Ultimately, jewelry is an expression of self.

Angelica Mariposa, owner of Mariposa Designs began learning the several facets of silver smithing and jewelry design in high school. She became fascinated with the art, and soon after turned her love into a business. Today Angelica loves to see people adorn themselves, it inspires her. Most of all, however, she is inspired by her two son’s and her very creative husband. Angelica has a small studio in her home in Los Angeles.
