Vendor Spotlight: TagBags

19 Nov

TagBags are handbags made from recycled South African license plates and inner tubes. There are seven different designs, all named for a woman in the township of Kayamandi South Africa who is making a difference in her community of 25,000 people living together in a one square mile area.

The idea behind TagBags is simple – the more bags that are sold, the more jobs that are created. The more jobs that are created, the more lives that are changed. The owners of TagsBags are often asked why they don’t have the bags manufactured in China or Mexico, where it could be done less expensively. But to that they say, “The point is that we actually WANT them to be made in South Africa because we WANT to create jobs.” TagBag is just as much about MAKING the purses as it is about SELLING them. The dream is to have TagBag Purse Plants all over the world, creating jobs in impoverished areas as they manufacture amazing purses made from recycled materials.
